Signs You Should Take Your Newborn to See the Pediatrician

Children's Medical Clinics recommends standard good child visits at three to five days, two weeks, and then every two months. However, if your baby gets sick outside of a scheduled appointment or checkup, or is exhibiting certain symptoms, you should schedule an appointment with the pediatrician as soon as possible.

Some of the symptoms to look out for in a newborn baby include:

  • Vomiting or diarrhea that lasts more than a few days
  • High fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Crying more than usual
  • Blood in vomit or stool
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Signs of seizure
  • Drainage from one or both ears
  • Rash
  • Uncontrollable breathing
  • Becomes limp or unresponsive
  • Yellow skin or eyes
